La coreografía compila algunos de los pasos y estética de los momentos bailables ofrecidos por el inmortal Bacallao, cantante de la agrupación y quien ´puso un sello a su inconfundible estilo de baile.
In the video below, CuerpoRoto dance company offers a omenage to the legendary Aragon orchestra. The music is performed by the orchestra itself. The choreography is by Vadim Larramendi Paz and the interpretation is by the dancers Itcel, Denia, Maikel and Vadim. The work tries to recreate the aesthetics and elegance that the prestigious orchestra has preserved throughout its long history. The choreography compiles some of the steps and aesthetics of the danceable moments offered by the immortal Bacallao, singer of the group and who ‘put a stamp on his unmistakable dance style.
Breve Historia
Orquesta Aragón. Orquesta popular cubana de charanga que fue fundada en la ciudad de Cienfuegos el 30 de septiembre de 1939 por Orestes Aragón Cantero con el nombre de Rítmica 39. Luego se llamaría Rítmica Aragón y finalmente Orquesta Aragón. Fueron, posiblemente, la mejor charanga en Cuba durante las décadas de 1950 y 1960. Sus constantes innovaciones rítmicas mantienen su música siempre actualizada. En su extenso repertorio tienen una amplia variedad de géneros musicales como: Danzón, Cha-Cha-Cha, Ritmo Cha-Onda, Pachanga y fusiones de Son.
La orquesta se fundó con ocho músicos. Con la enfermedad de su director Orestes Aragón en 1949, Rafael Lay Apesteguía se convirtió en su líder. En 1950, la orquesta hizo su primer viaje a La Habana y entre 1955 y 1958 lanzó cuatro LP para RCA. La agrupación registró casi cien números para RCA. En 1953 ingresa en la orquesta el estelar cantante e ídolo de multitudes Pepe Olmo del cual se cuentan muchísimas leyendas. En enero de 1959 entra Rafael Bacallao como cantante quien tambien fue un gran bailador y se destacó durante sus espectáculos atrayendo la aclamación del público.
En 1982, después de la muerte de Rafael Lay Apesteguía, Richard Egües se convirtió en líder de la banda hasta 1984, momento en que Rafael Lay Bravo (hijo de Rafael Lay Apesteguía) se hizo cargo como su nuevo Director. La Orquesta es una verdadera institución de inspiración para otras Orquestas al tratar con los estilos musicales cubanos y afrocubanos. Se han precentado en prestigiosos escenarios como: Carnegie Hall, el Lincoln Center de Nueva York, el Olympia de París, la Sala Chaikovski de Moscú, Minas de Chuquicamaca, Poliedro de Caracas, Jardines de Guinea. Fueron conciderados reye en África e ídolos de multitudes en América. La orquesta cumplirá 81 años en octubre del 2020 y se encuentra en plena actividad y constante actualización. A travez de la historia musical de la inconfundible Aragón se puede contar la historia de la música cubana.
Brief history
Aragon Orchestra. Cuban popular charanga orchestra that was founded in the city of Cienfuegos on September 30, 1939 by Orestes Aragón Cantero with the name of Rhythmic 39. Later it would be called Rhythmic Aragon and finally Orquesta Aragón. They were, possibly, the best brass band in Cuba during the 1950s and 1960s. Their constant rhythmic innovations keep their music always up to date. In their extensive repertoire they have a wide variety of musical genres such as: Danzón, Cha-Cha-Cha, Ritmo Cha-Onda, Pachanga and Son mergers.
The orchestra was founded with eight musicians. With the illness of its director Orestes Aragón in 1949, Rafael Lay Apesteguía became its leader. In 1950, the orchestra made its first trip to Havana and between 1955 and 1958 released four LPs for RCA. The grouping recorded almost one hundred numbers for RCA. In 1953 the star singer and idol of crowds Pepe Olmo joined the orchestra, of which there are many legends. In January 1959 Rafael Bacallao entered as a singer who was also a great dancer and stood out during his shows attracting public acclaim.
In 1982, after the death of Rafael Lay Apesteguía, Richard Egües became leader of the band until 1984, at which time Rafael Lay Bravo (son of Rafael Lay Apesteguía) took over as its new Director. The Orchestra is a true institution of inspiration for other Orchestras when dealing with Cuban and Afro-Cuban musical styles. They have been performed in prestigious settings such as: Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center in New York, the Olympia in Paris, the Chaikovski Hall in Moscow, Mines of Chuquicamaca, Polyhedron of Caracas, Gardens of Guinea. They were considered kings in Africa and idols of multitudes in America. The orchestra will be 81 years old in October 2020 and is in full activity and constantly updated. Through the musical history of the unmistakable Aragon, the history of Cuban music can be told.
